At the Salterns Coffee morning, Jan Gibbs collected the £100 prize and Cup on behalf of our Food and Produce Group entry.

Anne Haigh collected her prize for "Best in Show" in the Produce Section.

Theme..."Celebrating"



The results of The New Forest Show entries were brilliant. We did amazingly well with lots of stars awarded in many classes.


Mother's Day Afternoon Tea: Food & Produce Cooperative came First!


Best in Show Produce: Awarded to Anne Haigh for her amazing strawberry tarts


Strawberry Jam Class: Di Cobbett came First!


Photography Class: Ginny Campbell came First! (second year running)


Art Class: Gillian Key came Second


Knitting Class: Margaret Snelgar came Third

CLASSES:


1. Gingerbread men
Celebrating...’A Childs Birthday’ –Three decorated gingerbread biscuits, on a board no larger than 6”x12” (15cmx30cm) covered with cling film


2. Strawberry Jam
Celebrating...’Wimbledon’ – in a clear glass jar no larger than 8oz/225g, new plain lid, ingredients and date to be listed on label.
To have been made within the last year, no decorative covers.


3. Novice Class
Hot Cross Buns celebrating ...’Easter’ – Four Hot Cross Buns to be joined together. displayed on a board no larger than 8”/20cm square, covered with clingfilm.


4. Produce Co-operative
Afternoon Tea celebrating...’Mothering Sunday’ - three different food items to be displayed on a flat board no larger than 20" x 20" x 16"H (50cm x 50cm x 40cm) – back board optional, to be viewed from the front. No meat or fish and all food items to be covered in clingfilm. Accessories may be used but must be within the exhibit area and will be judged as part of staging and interpretation for which marks will be given.


5. Knitting/Crochet
Celebrating...’Chinese New Year – 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit’ – A Rabbit knitted or crocheted, no larger than 12”/30cm height. Please attach band from wool used to class label.


6.Beading/Felting/Embroidery
Celebrating – ‘Christmas’ – A Christmas tree decoration to be hung on the tree, can be

beaded, felted or hand embroidered. No Paper, knitting or crochet. No larger than 4”/10cm wide, 6”/15cm long – overall length to include hanger, ribbon or cord – These will be hung to display at the Show.


7. Charity
Celebrating...’Capes of Courage’ Lennox Children’s Cancer Hospital

A cape to fit a boy or girl aged 3 to 8 years old.
The pattern and instructions guide are available on the following link: https://threadridinghood.com/free-cape-tutorial These capes are given to children battling cancer to give them encouragement. Please attach a gold ribbon (to represent childhood cancer) somewhere on the cape. Capes to be made in different colours, any washable fabric. Can be Superheroes, Harry Potter, Frozen etc, adorn with hearts, stars, circles etc. - be as creative as you like.


8. Craft Co-operative
Celebrating...’The Coronation’. Three different Craft items (No Art). To be displayed on a board no larger than 24"/60cm x 30”/75cm) to be viewed from the front. Accessories may be used and must be within the exhibit but will not be judged. All three items must be removable from the display to be judged. Marks will be awarded for staging and interpretation. Name of WI on the underside of the board.


9. Flowers
Celebrating...’Weddings’ – For a Bridesmaid. A small flower girl basket with handle – handle length not to exceed 9”/23cm. Width including flowers and foliage not to exceed 6”/15cm. No Board, accessories to be contained within the exhibit. 


10. Photography
Celebrating...’What makes you happy’. A photograph you have taken within the last year, no larger than 7"/18cm x 5"/13cm. Must be mounted, framed and ready to hang/stand (no clip frames). (Maximum 2 entries per member)


11. Art
Celebrating...’Pride’. A painting/drawing, any medium, nothing stitched or sewn. Exhibit

must be framed, glazed and ready to hang (No box frames, clip frames or canvases due to humidity) Overall size no larger than 14"/35cm x 14”/35cm including frame.


12. Greeting Card
Celebrating...’A Special Event’ – A Greeting Card (e.g. Good luck, Easter, New Baby, Retirement, Diwali, New home, New job, Exam results, Hannukah, Driving test etc). No larger than 7”/18cm x 5”/13cm displayed with an envelope in an unsealed cellophane bag (For judging purposes) One card per member.


13. Committee Cup (public vote)
Celebrating...Bonfire Night. On a board no larger than 14"/35cm x14"/35cm, to be viewed

from the front. Several members to participate. Name of WI on underside of board

We're delighted to report the NFS is open to the public on Tuesday 26th, Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th July. 
Entries will be judged on Monday 25th July.
The theme "Step back in Time" (the same as it would have been 2 yrs ago) has multiple categories (see below) so we hope many members will submit entries.

CLASSES
1. ‘Sweets for my Sweet’  
Peppermint Creams - six sweets (half-dipped in chocolate optional) displayed in a box with clear lid/cling film no larger than 6"x4" (15 x 10cm). OWTS p 124

2. ‘Paddington’s Choice’ 
Fruit marmalade - any citrus fruit, clear glass jar, no larger than 8oz/225g, plain unused lid, ingredients and date to be listed on label. OWTS p 129-131

3. ‘Childhood Memories …’ 
English Madeleines - three madeleines, baked in a dariole mould, displayed on an oblong board no larger than 9" x 4" (23 x 10cm). Need to be covered in clingfilm. OWTS p 111

4. Produce Co-operative 
Create a "1950's Larder" - three different food items to be judged, displayed within a container no larger than 14" x 14" x 16"H (35 x 35 x 40cm). No meat or fish. All items to be covered. Accessories within the container only, can be used, but will not be judged. At least three members to take part but only two to stage on Monday, 27th July. OWTS p 104

5. ‘And So To Bed …’ - Bedsocks - knit or crochet a pair of colourful/attractive bedsocks. No restrictions, any wool or size of sock. OWTS p 78 and 65
 
6. Novice Class 
‘Be Creative with Macramé’ - any article (but NOT plant holder/hanger) no larger than 24" x 12" (60 x 30cm) – belts (Maximum length 40” (100 cm), bracelets, handbags etc.OWTS p 81

7. Charity Class 
‘Dress a Girl around the World’ - Toddler Dress – made from recycled fabric, e.g. pillowcase, shirt, etc., to be shown with photo of original item. (to be taken to a children’s orphanage in Uganda). Patterns and instructions for pillowcase dresses available on line. OWTS p 69

8. Craft Co-operative
‘The 1920's’ - three different Craft items from the era - all three items must be removable from the display to be judged. To be displayed on a board no larger than 24" x 30" (60 x 75cm) to be viewed from the front. Accessories may be used. Marks will be awarded for staging and interpretation. At least three members to participate but only two to stage on Monday, 27th July, OWTS p 54 

9. Flowers 
‘Tea at the Ritz’ - fresh or dried to be displayed in a small teapot - to arrive at the showground ready assembled. ALL accessories to be contained within the exhibit. No larger than 10" x 10" x 10" (26 x 26 x 26cms) - No board.

 Nostalgia – ‘A Village Scene’ - - a black and white or sepia photograph you have taken, no larger than 7"x5" (18x13cm). Must be mounted, framed and ready to hang/stand (no clip frames). (Maximum 2 entries per member). OWTS p 103
 
11. Art

‘Through the Garden Gate’ - A Miniature Allotment (public vote)  
- on a board, no larger than 14"x14" (35 x 35cm). Several members to participate. Name of WI on underside of board. OWTS p 54

OWTS - ‘On With the Show’ - invaluable guide, highly recommended for anyone involved with show work.  Available from WI House, Eastleigh, or on the NFWI website in ‘MyWI’.

RULES

Competitors must be Hampshire WI members and all articles for the competition MUST be their own work since August 2019.

Entry forms should be sent through Members’ Institute Representative.

Competitors can enter any number of items, unless otherwise stated, but can take only one award in each class.

The judge’s decision is final. Right is reserved to withhold the first prize if the judge considers the work does not merit it.

All exhibits including Co-operatives must be checked in BETWEEN 9.00am and 11.00am on the day before the Show – Monday 27th July, 2020. N.B. Apart from Class 4, no substitutions on the day, please.

Exhibits, apart from Class 8, will be staged at the Committee’s discretion.

Entries close Friday 12th June, 2020.

Exhibits may not be dismantled or removed from the Showground until 6.30pm, but before 7.30pm having been CHECKED OUT on the final day, Thursday 30th July 2020. ALL FOOD STUFFS TO BE TAKEN AWAY, PLEASE.

Individual entries and Class 12 – 75p per entry. Co-operative Classes (4 & 8) - £4.00

Unfortunately this event didn't take place for two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
