Charities & Fundraising

All WI groups are encouraged to support local charities and to give practical help where possible.

Milford on sea WI has raised over £5000 in the last 3 years for Honeypot Children's charity, MCV (Milford Conservation Volunteers), First Responders, Heartbeat House and Oakhaven Hospice.

Our fundraising is through craft, cakes and home produce sales, charity lunches and monthly raffles.

During the pandemic, we made masks and headbands for the NHS and helped with PPE construction, organised a collection for Basics Bank and operated a book exchange in a telephone box.

Year 2021/22 - our nominated charity is the local New Forest Motor Neurone Disease Support Group.

On Wednesday 14th July 2021 - a Cream Tea was held at The South Lawn Hotel, raising £290 for this group.

2022 also saw our WI fund the purchase and installation of a defibrillator at the Community Centre in the village.

1st Friday Lunch - December 2nd, 2022

Village Community Centre, 1pm

An amazing time was had! £7pp and 80 people served. Sausage casserole and apple crumble. An array of fabulous raffle prizes were on offer and a Craft stall present, selling their wares. Di expressed a huge thank you to all who contributed...be it cooking, laying tables, serving, marshalling guests, craft makers and sellers, collecting money, raffle, raffle prize acquiring...and of course all the ladies who came to lunch.

We raised a fantastic sum for our charity; Olivia Inspires - £925.00

Oakhaven Hospice Bunny Run - April 14th. Meet on the Village Green.

9.45am for a 10am start.

Following last year's successful event to raise funds for Oakhaven Hospice, they are doing it again this year. Several members of the Walking Group have already signed up, but it is open to ALL W.I. members who would like to participate in a 3-4 kms walk.

To register for this event either use www.oakhavenhospice.co.uk/bunny-run or phone Alicia Poulson on 01590 613026. It costs £8 to register and you will receive a set of bunny ears to wear on your walk. If you would like to dress up as a bunny, feel free to do so. We will also be collecting money en route from unsuspecting tourists who watch our group of bunnies!!!

When you register, please say you are part of the W.I. group and your ears will be kept aside to be collected by one of our members (and you will be given your ears on the day). Once registered please e-mail Jill Reid on jrintaiwan@hotmail.co.uk to confirm that you have registered.

It was great fun last year and even if you are not a regular member of the walking group you can always join in this short walk - usually from the green and round the seafront, but the route will be explained on the day. Even if you cannot walk, please come to support us at the start or the end and make a contribution to Oakhaven.

Update on Basics Bank Collections

To date, we have had 2 collections for New Forest Basics Bank; one last Christmas (2020) and the other this Easter, 2021. Our combined contribution has been 6 car loads and 22 crates of food and £340 in donations.

Also many of our members are sewing cloth bags for this charity, to support the need to reduce plastic bags, currently being used at 1000 a week.
